Many Americans face what is known as “megacommutes” everyday to go to work or school, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

About 600,000 motorists travel more than 50 miles from home to get to their workplace or 90 minutes each way every single day. Motorists face long driving hours and highway driving, which can take its toll and result in vehicle damage. Multiple drivers who are also megacommuters may also face the consequences of having to deal with physical, and mental stress over the long rides.

Because of that, several experts have urged megacommuters looking for new vehicles to look for particular features and traits that may help them with the ride, while also making the experience much more pleasant.

Sports cars and small, subcompact cars do not work when it comes to long rides, experts say. Vehicles that offer a comfortable and steady ride are much more pleasant to drive. While looking for vehicles, drivers are urged to look for models with a seat that is capable of being adjusted in several ways, which can help the driver and passengers to enjoy the ride and feel secure while the vehicle is in motion. Fuel economy, experts say, is also essential.

Long rides may end up costing big bucks. Fuel-efficient vehicles can keep drivers from spending too much on gas while driving back and forth from home and work.

Some of the vehicles that meet all of the requirements for a quality ride include the Volkswagen Golf TDI, experts say. This model is available for a little over $25,000 and its 38 mpg could meet most consumers’ fuel efficiency needs. According to the reports, this model is also equipped with comfortable seats and a steering and handling system that is also agile.

Another Volkswagen vehicle that has made the cut is the Passat TDI SE, which is available for about $28,665.  Chrysler’s 300 V6 Limited may not be as inexpensive as the Volkswagen models mentioned before (it is available for $38,335), but it may be the best bargain luxury sedan available in the country, experts say. The interior is roomy and the seats are comfortable. This model averages 22 mpg, which may not be great but does not make this model a gas-guzzler.

More vehicles added to this list of the best models include the Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited, the Lexus RX450h, the Audi A6 and the Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTec.

By keeping in mind that your goal is to reach your destination without any headaches, you will be able to research the best vehicles that are fully capable of allowing you to do so, without breaking the bank.
