According to several news reports, experts have been looking into coming up with a list of used vehicles that could be perfect for your teens, especially if you are interested in saving money when shopping for a reliable and safe car.

While prioritizing an economical choice, parents are urged to also take a good look into the safety factor, taking into consideration that reliability and safety technology could help to keep your child safe while behind the wheel. With that in mind, experts researched vehicles from the 2008 through 2010 models in order to find the best and most reliable vehicles that meet the parent’s need to keep it inexpensive while still meeting important safety requirements to keep teens and their passengers safe.

Experts looked into equipment quality and average reliability reports that were gathered with the help of an extensive consumer survey.

Used vehicles from the 2008 models will have about 66,000 miles, while 2009 models may have 51,000 miles, and 2010 models will have over 40,000 miles.

Experts looked into models including SUVs and traditional cars but did not include midsized or large trucks or SUVs, since these types of vehicles are not particularly recommended for novice drivers. Sports cars were also kept out of the list. Experts have also looked into the vehicles that are usually more costly to insure and kept them out of the list.

Vehicles included in the list of best used cars for teens are the 2009 Chevy Malibu, which is available for $12,925 at most dealers, and the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, which is about $14,483.  Other vehicles include the 2009 Ford Focus, which is available for about $10,388, the 2008 Hyundai Elantra, available for $9,450, 2009 Hyundai Sonata, available for $9,450, 2010 Kia Forte, available for $12,117, 2010 Kia Optima and Kia Sol, which are available for about $13,000, the 2009 Mazda6, available for a little over $10,000, and the 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander, which is available for $12,833.

Other models include the 2010 Nissan Altima and 2008 Nissan Rogue, the 2008 Scion xB, the 2009 Subaru Impreza, the 2008 Subaru Legacy, the 2010 Toyota Corolla, the 2010 Toyota Matrix, 2008 Toyota RAV4, and the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta.

Parents looking into purchasing a used car may prefer to do so since the original owner is the only one left with the consequences of being hit with the depreciation of the vehicle’s original value. Cars usually lose much more value during its first two years than during the subsequent years. When looking for a vehicle that will fit your teen’s needs, make sure to always remember to look for details concerning the car’s reliability with the help of consumer watchdog agencies like Consumer Reports.
