The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that Toyota has issued a recall recently for several vehicles over an issue with the sensing system, which could cause the front passenger airbag module to fail to deploy in the event of a collision.

Multiple models have been affected. Consumers who own any of the affected models are being notified by the company. All repairs and recalibrations will be performed for free.

Affected models include Tacoma, 4Runner, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, Prius V, Venza, Highlander, Tundra, Sienna, Corolla, Avalon, Sequoia, RAV4, and FJ Cruiser.

This issue affects the front passenger seat and it may have happened when these vehicles were modified to include certain new features like leather seat covers. If the sensor fails to notice the passenger in the front seat, the airbag module won’t deploy or may deploy incorrectly, posing a serious injury hazard to passengers. Consumers should never ignore a recall announcement that is associated with a product they own and use regularly. If you have one of the recalled vehicles, contact the manufacturer as soon as possible.
