Drivers Urged To Learn How To Properly Install Child Safety Seats

According to a series of news agencies, parents should never ignore the importance of the correct use of car safety seats.

Safety advocates have been trying to make it clear to parents that installing a properly fitted car safety seat correctly will ensure their children is safe in the event of an accident.

According to recent data released by the authorities, 1,794 children under age 15 have been killed in 2006 alone as a result of auto accidents. The reports show that every day, about five children who are 14 or younger are killed in auto accidents.

To prevent death and injuries, parents are urged to select a car seat or booster seat that is based on their children’s age and size. Parents are also urged to read the car safety seat’s manual in order to learn exactly which system they are supposed to use to secure the seat: the seat belt or the LATCH system.

All children should be kept in the back seat or in booster seats through age 12 to maximize safety. Parents are encouraged to verify weight and height limits before purchasing the car safety seat for their child. If the local authorities in your city offer free car safety seat checks, participate and ask questions until you’re absolutely confident that you know how to safely secure your child in his or her car safety seat.
