Nine- And Ten-Speed Automatic Transmissions To Be Developed By GM, Ford
Vehicles manufactured by GM and Ford could be soon sporting nine and even ten-speed automatic transmissions.
The reports show that since automakers have determined that seven or eight gears aren’t enough, multiple companies such as Chrysler and others have been developing cars and trucks with more than eight gears. Now, GM and Ford are also working toward that same goal.
The development of certain slushboxes with nine or ten speeds for multiple vehicle classes has kicked off. Some vehicles such as the Ford Explorer and the Chevrolet Malibu would be fitted with the new transmissions if the joint effort happens to be successful.
