Volvo Tests The SATRE Project

Since 2009, the car company Volvo has been experimenting with a concept of ‘road trains’, which involve multiple cars and lead trucks.

According to the company, this concept involves a lead truck, a second truck behind it and then, three light Volvo vehicles will follow. The most consistent speed during trials was 55 miles per hour. According to the company, the idea is to have drivers taking their eyes off the road and feet off the pedals while they are driving long distances because all trucks and vehicles would be part of a ‘road train’.
