According to a series of news outlets, in GM’s 2009 recall of 1.4 million cars, all vehicles with 3.8 liter V6 engines were not only in the recalled cars, but also in many other millions of vehicles manufactured by General Motors. However, just because the cars use the same defective parts, it doesn’t mean all owners of cars with that particular part need to worry about their vehicles being faulty.

Other car manufacturing companies, such as Ford and BMW, all respectively announced car recalls, covering millions of cars with the same issue. Though it may seem like a large number of defective and potentially hazardous vehicles, the numbers pale in comparison to the numbers that have actually been sold in the past: 182.3 million from 2000 through 2011.
